History of RAHP

The Royal Academy of Harry Potter began to form as a concept in Early 2006. Having worked in close contact with the Potter Police, a webmaster service provider, I began to consider the possibility of extending this opportunity to all members of the Harry Potter community. This originally entailed creating a safety net for every fansite, in the form of support from both RAHP and other members of our ‘Portal’. Working alongside several other webmasters, especially at The Potter Police and Mud Blood (which is now Fan of Fantasy), we created the site and forums and began work on some of our projects. Originally we had over thirty fansites as members of our Portal, and the vote for the council was a tightly run affair with Rich Myers of The Potter Police, narrowly beating Tom Pickett of Mud Blood to the Presidency. With Rich at the helm of the Council and Tom as his right hand man, RAHP began its first term in action. Despite the strong launch in the summer of ’06, the activity levels dwindled in the autumn and soon the first term had ended without any significant developments. In November of 2006 Kevin had been appointed co-webmaster, when I realized that my lack of technical expertise was a hindrance to the site. By the start of 2007 Kevin and I took total control of the running of RAHP, following the dilution of the council and the Portal. Working on new projects was difficult without the support of larger sites that we had previously banked upon, but with the assistance of almost twenty webmasters, forum administrators and web designers the Royal Academy of Harry Potter released its first publication, the short reference book Fanorama: The Birth of Harry Potter Fandom. Now in its second phase, the upgraded site features new forums, layout changer and a whole lot more content, which should see the site able to progress at the rapid rate that it deserves.
